We have developed a psychological method for the assessment of experiences related to room spaces with different atmospheres. Blue and red illumination was used to create two different visual atmospheres. In addition, music, furniture, and materials in the spaces were varied. The experience of the 21 participants was analyzed through qualitative interview. The qualitative data was coded and the codes were further studied with a multi-dimensional scaling analysis (MDA). The MDA results show how experiences in both spaces were formed and which overall feelings were reported. The blue space provided a clear context and action, whereas the red space was more ambiguous. It is concluded that the method applied can be used for the study of complex psychological experiences in multimodal environments.
