Abstract

The use of the percolation model from lattice statistics to represent the distribution of trapping times for air bubbles in polar ice is discussed. A number of relevant techniques and results from the statistical mechanics of phase transitions are reviewed in order to propose suitable approaches for performing a more refined lattice statistics analysis of bubble trapping.
