Abstract

We present the first direct measurement of the electric polarizability of isolated C60 molecules by molecular beam deflection technique. We have obtained a value of 76.5±8.0 Å3 which is consistent with most of the recent calculations and slightly lower than the value of the polarizability of C60 measured in fullerite crystals. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.
