Abstract

This report covers the outcomes of two studies that explored the emerging drivers for Open Science 2.0. In general, Open Science 2.0 thrives from themes such as open access to scientific outputs, open data, citizen science and open peer evaluation systems. Our studies focused on less explored themes, namely on alternative funding mechanisms for scientific research and on emerging reputation systems for scholars. The results from these two studies could be described as two sides of the same coin: scholars in the emerging field of "open science 2.0" build reputation in diverse ways that they use to acquire funding both from established sources but also from emerging alternative funding sources. In general however, it appears that new reputation and funding mechanism for scientific research are still in their infancy. It remains to be seen if they will be able to bring about a change in how science and research systems function in the future.
