Abstract

Subthalamic nucleus stimulation is an established surgical treatment for Parkinson's Disease. Although motor benefits of STN stimulation are well understood, its cognitive and behavioral effects are still not fully understood. We report a case of acquired pathologic hypersexuality effect of deep brain stimulation despite good clinical improvement for Parkinson’s Disease. Subthalamic nucleus stimulation may induce hypersexuality in rare occasions. Further careful evaluation is required to elucidate the mechanisms through which deep brain stimulation might affect sexual functions.
