Abstract

Identity abuse (IA) leverages homophobia and transphobia as discriminative systems to establish control over victims, with recognised tactics such as outing and isolation from LGBTQ+ communities, but due to the recency of the term IA, research is limited. Therefore, a scoping review on IA can synthesise the findings of previous research that may have touched upon these tactics, without using this specific terminology. A scoping review is suited due to the broad, exploratory research focus by synthesising existing knowledge and assessing the extent of the available evidence. Due to the limited research on IA specifically, domestic abuse literature will also be reviewed to inform the wider context.
