Reactions of (n-Bu4N)2[Mo2O7] or (n-Bu4N)4[α-Mo8O26] with RR′NCH2C(NH2)NOH·HCl (R=R′=H; R=H, R′=Me; R=R′=Me) in organic solvents give complexes containing a cyclic {Mo4O12} core. The adduct [Mo4O12{(Me2NHCH2C(NH2)NO}2]·2(n-Bu4N)Cl has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. The complex [Mo4O12{(Me2NHCH2C(NH2)NO}2] displays a cyclic (MoO2)4(μ-O)4 ring capped by two zwitterionic amidoxime ligands through the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the oximate group in the μ3-κN:κ2O mode which is also observed for the monoamidoxime of fumaronitrile in (n-Bu4N)2[Mo4O12{(NCCHCHC(NH2)NO}2].
