Abstract

Museums started as a way to show off the results of conquests and the exotic lands that have been folded into territories. In the 18th century, most colonies gained independence, research still embraced a model where former colonies had their specimen taken as a scientific token to developed countries. Museums are vitally important in maintenance and accessibility for scientific research. But the scientific infrastructure of the past still plays a role in today's studies. Mexico has struggled with this scientific framework with examples showing Mexican researchers struggling to find sufficient funding and ways to broadcast their results to the rest of the world. This has led to the attribution of a lower value to otherwise important scientific research from these countries. The science community needs to work to bridge the gap between nations to help create more advancements in research.
