Other ; The main aim of the study was to characterise the medieval pottery industry of the Sible Hedingham area and its output so that its products can be more readily identified at consumer sites, and to increase our knowledge of medieval pottery in Essex and East Anglia. The aim was also to place the industry in its geographical setting both in terms of the siting of the kilns and in the distribution and marketing of its products. It was also felt important to examine the origins and affinities of this ware and shed light on its demise.
