Abstract

Excited states of the nucleus Os-167 have been populated by the reaction Mo-92(Kr-78,2pn). The JUROGAM gamma-ray detector array has been used in conjunction with the RITU gas-filled separator and the GREAT spectrometer to observe prompt gamma rays in coincidence with recoiling fusion-evaporation residues and their subsequent decay by alpha particle emission. By correlating prompt gamma radiation with the characteristic alpha radioactivity of Os-167, it has been possible to extend the level scheme for this nucleus significantly. In particular, an extension of the yrast band and four previously unobserved bands are reported. In addition, the recoil distance Doppler-shift method was used to determine a lifetime of tau=20(4) ps for The I-pi=17/2(+) state in Os-167. Hence, the level of collectivity and magnitude of deformation of the low spin yrast band of this nucleus is established. . ; ISI Document Delivery No.: 466YK Times Cited: 0 Cited Reference Count: 38 Cited References: APPELBE DE, 2002, PHYS REV C, V66, ARTN 014309 BARK RA, 1990, NUCL PHYS A, V514, P503 BARK RA, 1999, NUCL PHYS A, V646, P399 BEAUSANG CW, 1996, J PHYS G NUCL PARTIC, V22, P527 BENGTSSON R, 1979, NUCL PHYS A, V314, P27 BENGTSSON R, 1979, NUCL PHYS A, V327, P139 BLUME KP, 1987, NUCL PHYS A, V464, P445 BOHR A, 1975, NUCLEAR STRUCTURE, V2, P45 CWIOK S, 1987, COMPUT PHYS COMMUN, V46, P379 DAVIDSON PM, 1994, NUCL PHYS A, V568, P90 DEWALD A, 1989, Z PHYS A ATOMS NUCL, V334, P163 DRACOULIS GD, 1992, P INT C NUCL STRUCT, V2, P94 GRAHN T, 2008, NUCL PHYS A, V801, P83, DOI 10.1016/j.nuclphysa.2008.01.002 HARRIS SM, 1965, PHYS REV, V138, B509 HAYAKAWA T, 2002, EUR PHYS J A, V15, P299, DOI 10.1140/epja/i2002-10082-0 HELMER RG, 2003, NUCL DATA SHEETS, V99, P483 JOSS DT, 2001, NUCL PHYS A, V689, P631 JOSS DT, 2002, PHYS REV C, V66, ARTN 054311 JOSS DT, 2004, PHYS REV C, V70, ARTN 017302 JOSS DT, 2006, PHYS REV C, V74, ARTN 014302 KALFAS CA, 1991, NUCL PHYS A, V526, P205 KING SL, 2000, PHYS REV C, V62, ARTN 067301 LEINO M, 1995, NUCL INSTRUM METH B, V99, P653 NAZAREWICZ W, 1985, NUCL PHYS A, V435, P397 PAGE RD, 1996, PHYS REV C, V53, P660 PAGE RD, 2003, NUCL INSTRUM METH B, V204, P634, DOI 10.1016/S0168-583X(02)02143-2 PAUL ES, 1995, PHYS REV C, V51, P78 RADFORD DC, 1995, NUCL INSTRUM METH A, V361, P297 RAHKILA P, 2008, NUCL INSTRUM METH A, V595, P637 REICH CW, 2000, NUCL DATA SHEETS, V90, P645 REICH CW, 2005, NUCL DATA SHEETS, V104, P1, DOI 10.1016/j/nds.2004.12.001 SATULA W, 1994, NUCL PHYS A, V578, P45 SATULA W, 1995, PHYS SCR T, V56, P159 SCHMIDT KH, 1986, PHYS LETT B, V168, P39 SCHOLEY C, PHYS REV C UNPUB, V168 SIMON RS, 1986, Z PHYS A ATOMS NUCL, V325, P197 SIMPSON J, 1992, J PHYS G NUCL PARTIC, V18, P1207 VIRTANEN A, 1995, NUCL PHYS A, V591, P145 O'Donnell, D.
