Abstract

Mn2+ occupies [Ca(N,O)7] polyhedral site in Ca-α-SiAlON. The polyhedral site imposes stronger crystal field and nephelauxetic shift on Mn2+ 4T16A1 transition, leading to an intense and broad deep-red emission.
