Abstract

Introduction Due to the ongoing development of clinical photodynamic therapy, the search continues for optimized photosensitizers (PSs) that can overcome some of the side effects associated with this type of treatment modality. As a part of an ongoing methods development program for new PDT drugs 1 we here report on the synthesis of unsymmetrical porphyrin conjugates. The second class of PSs are amphiphilic porphyrins which encompass an equilibrium between hydrophobic and hydrophilic residues for improvement of both bioavailability and targeting 2 .
