Abstract

Objective: To outline the epidemiological profile of people with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases cared for at an Emergency Care Unit. Method: Cross-sectional, quantitative, documentary and retrospective research. The sample consisted of 49 electronic medical records of people cared for from October 2017 to March 2018. Data were collected through the analysis of electronic medical records and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences program. Results: Most of the people cared for had chronic cardiovascular diseases (87.76%), were male (59.18%) and elderly (67.34%). The main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases were Systemic Arterial Hypertension (74.42%) and Diabetes Mellitus (37.21%). The final outcome of care at the Emergency Care Unit was the transfer to other locations (46.51%). Conclusion: It highlights the importance of investing in actions to prevent Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. The knowledge about the breadth of these diseases both in Brazil and in the world is part of the attributions required to fight them, thereby avoiding overloading emergency services.
