During the last (two) decade(s) thin-film silicon solar technology has developed from a small scale lab technology to an industrial large area technology. The efficiency of the modules has significantly increased during this period due to many innovations and optimizations. This paper is an introduction to MICROMORPH(TM) technology and sketches the way in which TEL Solar's world record modules (12.34 % on module level, 1.4 m^2) have been achieved. It describes the cell structures used in detail and also acts as an introduction and overview for a series of additional papers which describe the key improvements necessary for this level of efficiency in more detail.
