Abstract

Abstract This chapter provides an account of the scale and complexities of governance around Lake Balaton, in Hungary. It critically assesses the challenge of working towards sustainable development, within emerging governance structures, highlighting competition between different destination management organizations (DMOs). In its assessment of this destination, the chapter considers the challenges of planning multi-tourist activities in the Balaton area, given these governance complexities.
