Abstract

Effect of glutathione on the growth and flowering of Oncidesa Gower Ramsey 'Honey Angel' were investigated in this study. The growth of leaf, pseusobulb, leaf SPAD value, and flower qualities were measured. The results showed that the horticultural characteristics such as leaf area, pseudobulb thickness, pseudobulb width, and pseudobulb perimeter of plants treated with 5 mM glutathione were the biggest among all treatments after 12 wks, while the 2 mM-treated plants were the second biggest. There was no significant difference in all horticultural characteristics between 0 and 10 mM treatments. The leaf SPAD values measured at 6, 10, and 14 wks after treatments were significantly increased in plants treated with 5 mM glutathione, followed by 2 mM treatment, and there was no significant difference between 0 and 10 mM treatments. The plants treated with 5 mM glutathione showed the highest spiking rate and the highest flowering rate after 6 wks and 14 wks treatments, respectively. The inflorescence length, branch number, floret number, and floret size were also increased in plants treated with 5 mM glutathione. The growth of roots was inhibited by treatment of 10 mM glutathione even though the growth above ground and flowering qualities were almost the same as the plants with control treatment.
