Abstract

; Several studies defend that the knowledge is a construction process related to a dynamic social context in which the subject seeks to respond to the complexities of the environment and actively participate in it (Bandura, 1978, 1996; Bronfenbrenner 1979/1987; Papalia, Olds & Feldman, 1975/2001; Piaget & Inhelder, 1966/1993; Post & Hohmann, 2000/2007). Despite the growing scientific focus on the relationship between the environment and development of the subject, there´s a need to deepen the research into preschooler’s spaces, with the participation of children (Einarsdóttir, 2007). In this context, this research has the purpose to analyze the question of space in kindergarten, with the participation of children and professionals, through a case study, using the Mosaic Approach. In this study, the Mosaic Approach has shown to be a sensitive instrument to the languages and rhythms of children observed, wich revealed interest in participating and explore the school spaces. The results of observation also suggest differences in the planning and in the participation of professionals according to the space (indoor and outdoor). The Mosaic approach has raised some reflection issues in the observed institution: routine and planning sensitive to the participation of children; planification and pedagogical documentation in the various spaces - even in the transition areas; accessibility to materials and promotion of family participation.
