Abstract

Significance We have shown that the growth hormone-releasing hormone–growth hormone–insulin-like growth factor-1 (GHRH–GH–IGF1) axis is involved in experimentally induced acute inflammation in the iris and ciliary body, where its activation is associated with inflammatory responses. Blocking GHRH–GH–IGF1 axis activity by the GHRH receptor (GHRH-R) antagonist is effective in alleviating inflammatory responses. These findings demonstrate a novel activity of GHRH–GH–IGF1 axis signaling in ocular inflammation and suggest a potential therapeutic application of GHRH-R antagonist.
