Abstract

A new technique is presented to characterize the critical cavitation number of diesel injection nozzles. This technique is based on the measurement of the mass flow understationary conditions. For each nozzle a characteristic equation will provide the relationship between injection pressure and critical cavitation conditions, allowing engine designers to predict the invariance of mass flow with increased injection pressure under real engine conditions.
