Medicinal plants have been in use from ancient times and are widely used for the cure of different ailments and are gaining popularity among the people of both urban and rural areas. The importance of their proper use, curative dose concept and role of their active ingredients in current treatment system are summarized in this review. The importance of previous and current research works is also presented.
