The selection of proper material parameters is essential for analysing the stability of large dam structures. Data from measuremnts on existing dams can be used as a basis for the back-calculation of such parameters on a suitable model. This article demonstrates, by way of example, the determination of the so-called dynamic moduli for rock and concrete for the Schlegeis dam in Tyrol by use of field measurements and a finite element model.
