Abstract

The 6XXX series aluminum alloys (Al-Mg-Si) change its mechanical properties during the ageing treatment by the formation of precipitates. The reactions occurring during ageing are important to the formation of coherent phases, which are capable of increasing mechanical properties. Considering this fact, it is proposed two ageing treatments, without previous solubility, in an AA 6013 aluminum alloy, as follows, the first at 190°C for 4 hours and the second at 300°C for 1 hour and at 180°C for 3 hours. The treatment at 190°C for 4 hours presented higher tensile yield, ultimate strength and hardness when compared to the treatment at 300°C for 1 hour thus 180°C for 3 hours. Similar decrease on ductility was verified in both heat treatments.
