Abstract

The Ponto-Caspian racer goby Babka gymnotrachelus(Kessler, 1857) is recorded for the first time in Germany from a Danube backwater close to the city of Regens-burg, and from the Danube main channel close to the village of Mariaposching. Several specimens were collected and photographed in May and September 2011, and one kept until April 2012 in captivity. Previously reported records of this spe-cies from the German River Rhine are male Neogobius fluviatilis(Pallas, 1841), or possibly hybrids between different benthophiline goby species.
