Abstract

; ABSTRACT Tourism is a major economic activity worldwide, and is subjected to the action of different factors. Climate is one of the most important, since acts as a factor of tourist location, a resource or attractive. This memory analyzes the relationship between climate and tourism demand in several international tourist destinations, comparing one of the most used indices of tourism-climate suitability, the TCI (Tourism Climate Index, Mieczkowski, 1985), with different indicators of tourist demand, and exploring the impact of the anthropogenic climate change on tourism demand in these destinations. The results show that the relationship between climate and tourism demand differs among destinations because of the different tourism offers and markets, the Mediterranean being the region which displays a closest relationship. The statistical models relating climate and tourism demand under current conditions were applied to two climate scenarios to obtain future tourism demand projections, showing an improvement of the overall suitability, but through substantial changes in tourism demand seasonality. ; Grado en Geografía y Ordenación del Territorio
