Abstract

To study the genetic analysis for heat tolerance, eight heat tolerantdurum wheat genotypes viz., HI 8498, HI 8627, HI 8691, WH 896 IWP5013, NIDW 295, RAJ 6566 and MACS 3125 were crossed in halfdiallelfashion; and parents and 28 hybrids were grown in randomizedcomplete block design (RCBD) under very late sown condition i.e.,25th of December. Significant differences were observed among parentsand hybrids. General combining ability (GCA) effects were highlysignificant for all the traits as compared to specific combining ability(SCA). HI 8498, HI 8691 and NIDW 295 were found to be the bestparents as well as combiners due to their high GCA and SCA effect, respectively for 1000 grain weight (GW) and grain yield/plant (Gy/p).Cross combinations HI 8498/ NIDW 295, HI 8498/ MACS 3125, HI8627/ HI 8691, HI 8691/ WH 896, HI 8691/ RAJ 6566, IWP 5013/ NIDW295, IWP 5013/ RAJ 6566, NIDW 295/ RAJ 6566 and NIDW 295/ MACS3125 showed favourable SCA effect for grain yield alongwith othertraits. Therefore, these crosses should be given more emphasis in thedevelopment of desirable heat tolerant high yielding progenies infuture durum wheat breeding programs.
